The Newport Data Project is made up of community members interested in exploring new approaches to addressing local issues. The Project’s goal is to foster conversations about innovation in the community and provide the collective resources to follow through.
The Newport Data Project is based on the idea that everyone has something to contribute if they have access to the right tools. Open datasets are an important part of that idea. The Newport Data Project advocates opening datasets to the public, and seeks out existing open datasets from local, state, national, and international sources. You can explore these datasets on our Data Portal.
Data provides a unique way of looking at issues. We look at challenges and opportunities in our communities using data-driven methods to provide fact-based options to community members and local leaders. We post our code on GitHub.
If the Newport Data Project interests you, please join the mailing list. We'll keep you in the loop (without spamming you!), and we'll also send you an invite to the Slack channel where most of the conversation takes place.
The Member Introduction has more information on how the Project works.
